Cashmere Care
Washing
Hand wash (recommended):
- Fill a basin with lukewarm water (no warmer than 30°C)
- Add a small amount of cashmere shampoo or mild detergent
- Submerge the garment and gently swirl—don't rub, twist, or wring
- Soak for up to 30 minutes
- Rinse thoroughly in clean lukewarm water
- Gently press out water—never wring or twist
Dry cleaning: Professional dry cleaning is safe for cashmere and ideal for heavily soiled items.
Drying
- Always lay flat to dry on a clean towel, reshaping while damp
- Never hang wet cashmere—it will stretch out of shape
- Keep away from direct heat and sunlight
- Do not tumble dry
Pilling
Light pilling is natural with cashmere and indicates genuine fibre quality. Use a cashmere comb or fabric shaver to gently remove pills. Pills diminish after the first few wears.
Storage
- Always store folded, never on a hanger
- Use breathable garment bags, not plastic
- Add cedar balls or lavender sachets to deter moths
- Give cashmere a day's rest between wears
Mink Cashmere Care
Mink cashmere is even finer and more delicate than regular cashmere.
- Dry cleaning recommended for best results
- If hand washing, use extra-cool water and minimal handling
- Never machine wash
- Store in a breathable bag with cedar
Merino Wool Care
Merino is more resilient than cashmere but still benefits from gentle care.
Machine wash (safe):
- Cold water only (30°C maximum)
- Gentle/wool cycle
- Use a mesh laundry bag
- Wool-safe detergent
Drying: Lay flat to dry or tumble dry on lowest heat setting.
General Tips
Between Washes
You don't need to wash knitwear after every wear. Natural fibres are naturally odour-resistant.
- Air out on a flat surface overnight
- Lightly steam to release creases
- Spot clean small marks with cool water
Moth Prevention
- Clean items before storing (moths are attracted to body oils)
- Use cedar blocks, lavender, or moth sachets
- Store in breathable bags, not plastic
- Check stored items periodically
